Perfect Location

My extended family was in Oahu for a month when everyone needed to go through a 14 day quarantine, so we knew we needed a place that could give us plenty of room and would be a true pleasure to stay in. After we arrived at Maunalua Sunset, we knew we had picked the right place. There's a lanai in the backyard that looks directly out to the ocean and has a large table where we had our at-home meals. Sitting outside offered such beautiful views of the ocean (and sunsets) that we never ate a meal inside. The pool was a favorite too. People would hop in at all times of the day and night, occasionally going into the hot tub for a soak after a hike or just for relaxing. Having a separate full-size SubZero freezer and fridge gave us plenty of cold storage for our large group. We never ran out of room for all the groceries we bought. There is ample parking for 4 or more cars in the garage and roundabout driveway. The ocean access was great too. Being able to hop down into the ocean from your backyard to do some ocean swimming, paddle-boarding, snorkeling, etc was super convenient. In addition to the backyard ocean activities, you can walk or take a short drive to get to Koke'e Beach Park for more snorkeling, or China Walls for rock jumping. Being in the Portlock area of Oahu was close to a Costco, Safeway and many restaurants (please try the Leonard's Bakery Malasadamobile in the Koko Marina Shopping Center!), but also was a good launching pad to get to other parts of the island. Our stay at Maunalua Sunset has created life-long memories for all of us. We are super happy we chose it for our stay in Oahu.

The property has the most private location and spectacular views! The home is lush with tropical plants and trees -to me it was an oasis. The property is unique as it has a true “old Hawaiian” feel with spacious rooms and a large lanai for watching sunsets every evening. The layout of the house is perfect for guests to have their own space in large bedrooms with lanais. I fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean and woke up to the singing of birds. It was my definition of a slice of paradise.

Our stay was good. We had some issues locking some of the doors when we would leave, There was no air in the kitchen or dining area inside only a wall unit in living room that actually kept it really cool when we were there. All rooms had a wall unit except the room in the main living area that we did not use because we did not need it. And the restrooms in the master bedroom had to be closed to keep the bedroom cool so when showering it did get very hot after our showers. If you overuse the electrical you will need to pay for it. Recommend to have the pool heated a little since it was very cold to get into. Some of the towels in our master bedroom were dirty with makeup stains. They did provide towels for the beach and chairs as well which was great! It was very peaceful and private. Beautiful sunsets. No beach access. But still beautiful. They give you restaurant ideas and beaches to go to as well. Which was nice. Lots of cooking supplies. Overall stay was good!

Situated in the famed oceanside neighborhood of Portlock on a rare double-sized ocean lot, this Hawaii Kai vacation rental home provides the ultimate in privacy and accommodations for your large group. Multiple estate structures surround a tropical courtyard and 1,000-square-foot swimming pool. From its prime location on Maunalua Bay, the home allows guests to enjoy calm shores and panoramic views of incredible sunsets, Diamond Head, Koko Head, and Waikiki, including dazzling fireworks every Friday night.

Spacious and serene, Maunalua Sunset features open-beam ceilings and rich hardwoods for a classic old Hawaii feel, along with large covered lanais for traditional indoor-outdoor island living. The main house contains a full kitchen, living room with sunken bar for entertaining, half bath, and upstairs loft bedroom with a wet bar and a full bath. An adjacent, separate structure on the ocean side boasts a generous primary suite with a California king bed, smart television, ocean and mountain views, a private lanai, pool access, a walk-in closet, dual sinks, and dual toilets. The third structure on site houses the remaining bedroom suites, with two downstairs and two upstairs.

Gated access and a long roundabout driveway lead to the grounds of Maunalua Sunset estate, where the central courtyard, meandering resort-style swimming pool, and jacuzzi create a focal point for guest gatherings. Along with covered patios and walkways winding among the structures, this peaceful retreat offers an oceanfront yard with places to lounge in sun or shade.

Located on Oahu's southeast shore, this exceptional Honolulu vacation rental also enables guests to easily access area attractions such as stunning Sandy Beach, the Hawaii Kai Golf Course, and the Makapuu Point Lighthouse Trail. Restaurants such as Kona Brewing Company and Roy's Hawaii Kai are also nearby, and the endless dining and shopping possibilities of Waikiki are less than 10 miles away.
